This Girl is On Fire: Celebrating the Women of Brixx - Brixx Wood Fired Pizza

International Women’s Day is about celebrating the achievements of women and taking action for inequality. Not only is one of our founders a woman, but the contribution of women at Brixx burns bright from senior leadership all the way to the restaurant floor. Today, we’re shining the spotlight on just a few of the fiery females who fuel the flames of success here at Brixx.

Barbara Morgan

Victoria Miles

Owner, Brixx Wilmington

Victoria Miles

Victoria and her husband, Bill, opened Brixx Wilmington in 2008 (right at the beginning of the recession–which, according to Victoria, did wonders for their sleeping patterns). The community in Wilmington embraced Brixx and it’s been great ever since. Victoria says, “The people in Wilmington are really Brixx people, and we have enjoyed meeting each and every one at some point in the last 11 years. When in Wilmington, we meet regulars everywhere and find the Wilmington folks are very warm and outgoing, and always have something nice to say about Brixx.”

Victoria’s Brixx Six:

  1. Where are you from?
I grew up in Virginia and Kentucky and stayed in KY until after college. I then moved to Charlotte, NC, almost 30 years ago.
  2. What are some of your hobbies?
My main hobby would be fly-fishing. I have enjoyed it for many years and love the skill set required to master the art of fly-fishing. There is something magical about the quietness of the sport. I’ve enjoyed the Alaska area and east coast and hope to spend some European time in the backwoods on some rivers in the next few years.
  3. What’s a past Brixx menu item you miss?
Due to my southern roots, I still miss the pimento cheese! We still talk about how no one has pimento cheese like Brixx had–it’s like remembering a song. That darn pimento cheese set the standard for other pimento dishes for us!
  4. What are you binge-watching on TV or Netflix?
Better Call Saul. I love the quirky nature of Saul, and I like a show that makes me think. This show is definitely one that requires attention to watch.
  5. What’s your current favorite Brixx dish?
The new Brixx Bowls (shh, we’re currently offering them exclusively here in Wilmington) have quickly become a favorite. The Caribbean Bowl is so amazing I do think I could eat it every day (I have not looked at the calorie count and won’t). However, the Bronx Bomber gets me every time I see one ordered–I have to have one.
  6. If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?
Being invulnerable–but being a woman is a pretty good start on this!

Addison Higgins

Server, Brixx Charlotte-Foxcroft

Addison Higgins

Addison has been with Brixx for almost a year. “My coworkers and managers at Brixx have made it feel like a second family,” says Addison. “The people make the work environment fun, but also know how to get things done when they need to be. I think our location definitely has a lot of girl power because of the fact that we have a lot more women than men. The ladies at Brixx will always keep you on your toes with their quick wit and funny bits they do.”

Addison’s Brixx Six:

  1. Where are you from?
I was adopted from China as a baby. Then, I moved to Charlotte from St. Louis, MO, 6 years ago.
  2. What are some of your hobbies?
One of my hobbies is photography. I have always had an interest in capturing every moment with a camera or my phone’s camera. I was on the yearbook staff during middle and high school. I do photos for people when they ask, for example at their kid’s birthday party or family portraits.
  3. What’s a past Brixx menu item you miss?
    Pimento Cheese Dip
  4. What are you binge-watching on TV or Netflix?
Currently, I am Netflix bingeing the show Good Girls.
  5. What’s your current favorite Brixx dish?
My favorite Brixx item currently is the Southwestern Chicken Salad. I put well-done salmon on it instead of the chicken.
  6. If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?
If I were a superhero, I would want my superpower to be teleportation because I think it would be really cool and an easy way to travel.

  2. What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy going to the gym, spending time with my family and watching sports!

  5. What’s your current favorite Brixx dish?
My current favorite dish is a tie between the Mexican and the Buffalo Chicken Pizza!
  6. If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?
If I had a superpower, I would want to be able to fly, so I could go see my family in Mexico more often.

Grayson Ring

General Manager, Brixx Greenbrier

Grayson Ring

Grayson started at Brixx Landstown in April of 2016 as an Assistant Manager. Shortly after that, she was promoted to GM of the Landstown location, where she continued to work until she was asked to take over as GM at the Brixx Greenbrier location in Chesapeake, VA. Grayson remembers one of her proudest moments as a woman of Brixx as the time she worked with the G.R.O.W Foundation – a local non-profit dedicated to ending domestic violence through community empowerment – to organize a Brixx Buxx event benefiting their cause. “It is a wonderful organization,” says Grayson. “I was very proud to be able to reach out to the local community and help educate others on the what G.R.O.W. does, as well as being able to give back to those who are less fortunate. As a single mother of two little boys, I know how hard it can be sometimes, and some of the victims of domestic violence are forced to leave without much more than the clothes on their back. To know that our team and myself were able to make a difference (if only a small one), is something we can all be proud of.”

Grayson’s Brixx Six:

  1. Where are you from?
I am originally from Memphis, TN.
  2. What are some of your hobbies?
My hobbies would include repurposing antique furniture, photography, and anything that involves my two little ginger ninjas–Brody (10) and Bentley (7).
  3. What’s a past Brixx menu item you miss?
I miss the Korean Peppersteak Pizza.
  4. What are you binge-watching on TV or Netflix?
A little embarrassing to admit, but I am binge watching Love After Lockup currently, and Good Girls.
  5. What’s your current favorite Brixx dish?
My favorite Brixx dish is the Shrimp Scampi Pizza we created at our store as a Pizza of the Month. It did so well, we ended up offering it as a permanent special! Aside from that, I’d have to say it’s a tie between the Roasted Chicken Club and the Shrimp Carbonara.
  6. If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?
Ohhh, that’s a good one. I would have to say I would want my superpower to be able to always see the truth, even when others are lying. (Is that weird?! LOL)
